Public numbers on monetary valuation of fish landings

Goulart, Pedro; Veiga, Francisco J.; Grilo, Catarina

This article presents a dataset that combines several time series of economic variables for Portugal, from 1969 to 2015, which can be used to accurately measure the change in value of different series in the fisheries sector. Raw data includes total nominal revenue from fish landings measured in thousands of euros, a consumer price index, and the nominal exchange rate of the Portuguese escudo against the US dol...

Influence of feeding regimens on rat gut fluids and colonic metabolism of diclo...

Vieira, Amélia C. F.; Murdan, Sudaxshina; Serra, Arménio C.; Veiga, Francisco J.; Gonsalves, António M. d’A. Rocha; Basit, Abdul W.

Feeding states may affect the performance of colonic prodrugs. The aim is to investigate the influence of feeding regimen in Wistar rats on: (i) distribution and pH contents along the gut and (ii) metabolism of two colonic prodrugs, diclofenac-β-cyclodextrin and a commercially available control, sulfasalazine, within the caecal and colonic contents. Male Wistar rats were subject to four different feeding regime...

Nanoparticulate biopolymers deliver insulin orally eliciting pharmacological re...

Reis, Catarina P.; Veiga, Francisco J.; Ribeiro, António J.; Neufeld, Ronald J.; Damgé, Christiane

The aim of this study was to characterize and evaluate a novel oral insulin nanoparticulate system based on alginate-dextran sulfate core, complexed with a chitosan-polyethylene glycol-albumin shell. Insulin-loaded nanospheres (25, 50, 100 IU/kg) administered orally to diabetic rats reduced glycemia in a dose dependent manner. This effect lasted over 24 h with a maximal effect after 14 h. Nanospheres increased ...

Evaluation of host-guest complex formation between a benzimidazolic derivative ...

Figueiras, Ana; Ribeiro, Laura; Torres-Labandeira, J.; Veiga, Francisco J.

Abstract Interactions between a benzimidazolic derivative, omeprazole (OME), beta-cyclodextrin (ßCD) and a chemically modified ßCD, methyl-beta-cyclodextrin (MßCD) were investigated in aqueous solution by UV-VIS spectroscopy and in solid state by differential scanning calorimetry (DSC). Phase solubility studies were used to evaluate the complexation in aqueous solution. The two solubility diagrams obtained were...
