Soil maps provide a method for graphically communicating what is known about the spatial distribution of soil properties in nature. We proposed an optimized pipeline, named dino-soil toolbox, programmed in the R software for mapping quantitative and categorical properties of legacy soil data. The pipeline, composed of four main modules (data preprocessing, covariates selection, exploratory data analysis and mod...

Effect of syngas composition on hydrogen permeation through a Pd–Ag membrane

Pinto, Filomena; Andre, Rui N.; Franco, Carlos; Carolino, Carlos; Gulyurtlu, Ibrahim

Hydrogen separation from a syngas mixture with different compositions was studied by using a Pd–Ag membrane. The effect of temperature (from 300 C to 600 C) and of relative pressure (from 0.2 MPa to 0.5 MPa) was studied. In general, rises of both these parameters allowed increasing H2 permeate flux. The Pd–Ag membrane showed to have a great selectivity, as when inlet gas mixture contained different compositions...

Recursos turísticos no concelho do Bombarral : identificação e potencial

Franco, Carlos

Gasification study of cynara cardunculus to produce hydrogen rich gas

Franco, Carlos; Lopes, Helena; Pinto, Filomena; Andre, Rui N.; Gulyurtlu, Ibrahim; Cabrita, Isabel

The need to substitute fossil fuel feedstocks with endogeneous biomass to produce energy with lower environmental impact makes necessary to develop innovative and technologically more advanced processes for energy production. Gasification of Cynara cardunculus L. (cardoon) alone and mixed with Eucalyptus was carried out in a bench scale fluidized bed gasifier to study the influence of operating parameters that ...

A “Casa da Cozinha”, em Lisboa, no século XVIII: móveis, recipientes e utensílios

Franco, Carlos

Kitchens, a service area, apparently left out from the major transformations that begin to operate in the Portuguese noble house, in the eighteenth century, will also, in its way, change in light of new social habits and diets. In this paper, we look at the “home kitchen” from the record of the key tools in that area, trying to understand its usefulness, and some of the flavours that have been developed over th...

Fluidised bed combustion of two species of energy crops

Abelha, Pedro; Franco, Carlos; Lopes, Helena; Gulyurtlu, Ibrahim; Cabrita, Isabel

The use of biomass fuels for energy production through combustion has a growing application worldwide mainly for two reasons: first, the utilization of biomass for energy contributes to mitigate emission of green house gases; second, its use decreases the dependence of imported fossil fuels in Europe. The objective of this work was to study the combustion behaviour of two endogenous biomass species: cardoon (cy...
