Vitamin and micronutrient excess in patients with Crohn’s disease under oral am...

Oliveira, R.; Mendes, B.; Neves, J. Cunha; Amorim, E.; Roseira, J.; Sousa, H. Tavares de

Exclusive enteral nutrition (EEN) is recommended for preoperative nutritional optimization (PNO) in adult Crohn's disease (CD) patients. However, during ambulatory oral EEN, a lack of routine monitoring for vitamins may occur, with a potential risk of hypervitaminosisrelated toxicity, which remains unexplored. This study aims to assess the serum levels of vitamins and micronutrients in CD patients undergoing EE...

Producing hybrid pultruded structural products based on preforms

Silva, F.J.G.; Amorim, E.; Baptista, Andresa; Pinto, Gustavo Filipe; Campilho, R.D.S.G.; Castro, M.R.A.

Hybrid pultrusion is a process that can be used to fabricate different products, enclosing distinct techniques and materials. Its development comes from the need to obtain properties' reinforcement of the structural profiles obtained by pultrusion, allowing its application into specific situations, such as thermal or acoustic insulation or to increase the product's moment of inertia, without having a proportion...

Vanek tumor -endo-laparoscopic approach

Cunha, Miguel; Roseira, Joana; Rachadell, J.; Amorim, E.; Americano, M.

:Vanek’s tumor was first reported in 1949 as a benign gastrointestinal (GI) submucosal alteration, being more prevalent at the stomach (70%) and ileum (20%). This entity corresponds to 0.1% of all gastric polyps, and its diagnosis is mostly incidental when searching for an upper gastrointestinal bleeding cause. The authors present a case and iconography of a Vanek lesion.

Minimally invasive treatment of gastric GIST by endo-laparoscopy

Cunha, Miguel; Hristrova, K.; Roseira, Joana; Hugo, V.; Melo, J.; Veiga, D.; Peixe, B.; Sousa, Helena Tavares; Rachadell, J.; Amorim, E.; Americano, M.

The gastrointestinal stromal tumor,s (GISTs) are the most common mesenchymal tumours of the gastrointestinal tract. Surgery is the primary therapeutic approach. Objective: To present the results of patients undergoing combined endo-laparoscopic (ELC) approach as a minimally invasive treatment for gastric GISTs

Ecological quality assessment of transitional waters based on fish assemblages:...

Cabral, H.N.; Fonseca, V.F.; Gamito, R.; Gonçalves, C.I.; Costa, J.L.; Erzini, K.; Gonçalves, J.; Martins, J.; Leite, L.; Andrade, J.P.; Ramos, S.

The assessment of water quality has changed markedly worldwide over the last years, especially in Europe due to the implementation of the Water Framework Directive. Fish was considered a key-element in this context and several fish-based multi-metric indices have been proposed. In this study, we propose a multimetric index, the Estuarine Fish Assessment Index (EFAI), developed for Portuguese estuaries, designed...

Robustness of the Estuarine Fish Assessment Index (EFAI) regarding water body d...

Gonçalves, C. I.; Pasquaud, S.; Gamito, R.; Fonseca, V. F.; Costa, J. L.; Erzini, Karim; Gonçalves, Jorge Manuel Santos; Martins, J.; Leite, L.

According to the Water Framework Directive (WFD) transitional waters should be differentiated according to type and, in some cases, divided into different water bodies. This raises a dilemma in trying to define parts of a continuum. In the sequence of WFD several indices have been proposed including the Estuarine Fish Assessment Index, which can be applied taking an estuary as a whole (EFAI - without water bodi...
