An Overview of Wound Dressing Materials

Lagoa, Tânia; Queiroga, MC; Martins, L

Wounds are an increasing global concern, mainly due to a sedentary lifestyle, frequently associated with the occidental way of life. The current prevalence of obesity in Western societies, leading to an increase in type II diabetes, and an elderly population, is also a key factor associated with the problem of wound healing. Therefore, it stands essential to find wound dressing systems that allow for reestablis...

Microbiota Modulation as an Approach to Prevent the Use of Antimicrobials Assoc...

Lagoa, Tânia; Martins, Luís; Queiroga, Maria Cristina

Modern lifestyle factors—such as dietary changes, reduced microbial exposure, and ge- netic susceptibility—profoundly influence the composition and function of the commensal microbiota. Additionally, dysregulation of the gut microbiota has been linked to impaired immune responses and an increased prevalence of skin disorders, including allergies and in- flammatory conditions, thereby underscoring the importance...

Study of the intestinal microbiome of healthy and atopic dogs.

Lagoa, Tânia; Conceição, Sara; Laranjo, Marta; Martins, Luís; Queiroga, Cristina

Introduction: Atopic dermatitis is the most common chronic pruritic inflammatory skin condition with a high impact on public health. This study proposes that the development of atopic dermatitis (AD), is associated with dysbiosis, not only of the skin microbiome, but also of the gut flora, or microbiota. Therefore, imbalances in commensal bacteria can negatively impact the immune system response and lead to inf...

Background Canine atopic dermatitis (cAD) is a genetic-predisposed allergic and pruritic inflammatory skin condition, associated with sensitization to environmental allergens. Keratinocytes can produce several inflammatory mediators, in response to several other host mediators, antigens, and pathogens by virtue of their wide range of surface receptors, some of them dysregulated in cAD individuals. A histotypica...

Agora as feridas! Hydrogel on cells: ok! What about application on wounds? Expe...
