Sensitivity of the SHiP experiment to light dark matter

Ahdida, C.; Akmete, A.; Albanese, R.; Alexandrov, A.; Anokhina, A.; Aoki, S.; Arduini, G.; Atkin, E.; Azorskiy, N.; Back, J. J.; Bagulya, A.

Dark matter is a well-established theoretical addition to the Standard Model supported by many observations in modern astrophysics and cosmology. In this context, the existence of weakly interacting massive particles represents an appealing solution to the observed thermal relic in the Universe. Indeed, a large experimental campaign is ongoing for the detection of such particles in the sub-GeV mass range. Adopt...

Centrality determination of Au + Au collisions at 1.23A GeV with HADES

HADES collaboration (113 authors); Blanco, A.; Bordalo, P.; Fonte, P.; Franco, C.; Lopes, L.; Mangiarotti, A.; Ramos, S.; Silva, L.

The centrality determination for Au+Au collisions at 1.23A GeV, as measured with HADES at the GSI-SIS18, is described. In order to extract collision geometry related quantities, such as the average impact parameter or number of participating nucleons, a Glauber Monte Carlo approach is employed. For the application of this model to collisions at this relatively low centre-of-mass energy of $\sqrt{s_{\mathrm{NN}}...

MARTA: a high-energy cosmic-ray detector concept for high-accuracy muon measure...

Abreu, P. et al. (45 authors); Andringa, S.; Assis, P.; Blanco, A.; Brogueira, P; Carolino, N.; Cazon, L.; Conceição, R.; Cunha, O; Diogo, F.

A new concept for the direct measurement of muons in air showers is presented. The concept is based on resistive plate chambers (RPCs), which can directly measure muons with very good space and time resolution. The muon detector is shielded by placing it under another detector able to absorb and measure the electromagnetic component of the showers such as a water-Cherenkov detector, commonly used in air shower ...

Deep sub-threshold $\phi$ production in Au+Au collisions

HADES collaboration (114 authors); Blanco, A.; Bordalo, P.; Fonte, P.; Franco, C.; Lopes, L.; Mangiarotti, A.; Ramos, S.; Silva, L.

We present data on charged kaons (K+-) and {\phi} mesons in Au(1.23A GeV)+Au collisions. It is the first simultaneous measurement of K and {\phi} mesons in central heavy-ion collisions below a kinetic beam energy of 10A GeV. The {\phi}/K- multiplicity ratio is found to be surprisingly high with a value of 0.52 +- 0.16 and shows no dependence on the centrality of the collision. Consequently, the different slopes...

$\Sigma^0$ production in proton nucleus collisions near threshold

HADES collaboration (109 authors); Blanco, A.; Bordalo, P.; Fonte, P.; Franco, C.; Lopes, L.; Mangiarotti, A.; Ramos, S.; Silva, L.

The production of Σ0 baryons in the nuclear reaction p (3.5 GeV) + Nb (corresponding to sNN=3.18 GeV) is studied with the detector set-up HADES at GSI, Darmstadt. Σ0 s were identified via the decay Σ0→Λγ with subsequent decays Λ→pπ− in coincidence with a e+e− pair from either external ( γ→e+e− ) or internal (Dalitz decay γ⁎→e+e− ) gamma conversions. The differential Σ0 cross section integrated over the detector...

Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease: validation of IPAG questionnaire and Pik...

Peixoto, Isabel; Martins, A.; Silva, A. I.; Guimarães, F.; Barros, M.; Costa, P.; Fonte, P.

Introduction. Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD) is a major cause of morbidity and mortality worldwide, usually not diagnosed until advanced stages of the disease. In Portugal, the Portuguese Burden of Obstructive Lung Disease (BOLD) study has estimated a prevalence of 14.2% in adults over 40 years, with 86.8% of under-diagnosis. The use of simple screening tools in Primary Health Care (PHC) can incre...

LATTES: a new gamma-ray detector concept for South America

Assis, P.; Almeida, U. Barres de; Blanco, A.; Conceição, R.; Piazzoli, B. D'Ettoree; de Angelis, A.; Doro, M.; Fonte, P.; Lopes, L.; Matthiae, G.

5 pages, 5 figures, Proc. of RICAP2016, v2: correct affiliation and doi; Currently the detection of Very High Energy gamma-rays for astrophysics rely on the measurement of the Extensive Air Showers (EAS) either using Cherenkov detectors or EAS arrays with larger field of views but also larger energy thresholds. In this talk we present a novel hybrid detector concept for a EAS array with an improved sensitivity ...

Inclusive $\Lambda$ production in proton-proton collisions at 3.5 GeV

HADES collaboration (109 authors); Blanco, A.; Bordalo, P.; Fonte, P.; Franco, C.; Lopes, L.; Mangiarotti, A.; Ramos, S.; Silva, L.

The inclusive production of Λ hyperons in proton-proton collisions at s=3.18GeV was measured with HADES at the GSI Helmholtzzentrum für Schwerionenforschung in Darmstadt. The experimental data are compared to a data-based model for individual exclusive Λ production channels in the same reaction. The contributions of intermediate resonances such as Σ(1385), Δ++, or N* are considered in detail. In particular, the...
