Em julho de 2016 foi identificado o primeiro caso de botulismo tipo F, em Portugal. Foi detetada toxina botulínica tipo F (BoNT/F) nas fezes de um doente com quadro clínico típico de botulismo e isolada a estirpe de Clostridium botulinum produtora de BoNT/F.
