Fibering polarizations and Mabuchi rays on symmetric spaces of compact type

Baier, Thomas; Ferreira, Ana Cristina; Hilgert, Joachim; Mourão, José M.; Nunes, João P.

In this paper, we describe holomorphic quantizations of the cotangent bundle of a symmetric space of compact type $T^*(U/K)\cong U_\mathbb{C}/K_\mathbb{C}$, along Mabuchi rays of $U$-invariant K\"ahler structures. At infinite geodesic time, the K\"ahler polarizations converge to a mixed polarization $\mathcal{P}_\infty$. We show how a generalized coherent state transform relates the quantizations along the Mabu...

Optimizing Reservoir Water Management in a Changing Climate

BEÇA, PEDRO; Rodrigues, António C.; Nunes, João P.; Diogo, Paulo; Mujtaba, Babar

One of the UN agenda 2030 Sustainable Development goals is associated with water availability and its sustainable management. The present study intends to improve multipurpose reservoir management under climate change scenarios in water scarce regions such as the Mediterranean. Implemented methods include the sequential use of climate model results, hydrological modelling, and reservoir water balance simulation...

Electrical impedance tomography for damage detection and localization on carbon...

Rocha, Helena Cristina Lopes; Fernandes, Christophe; Ferreira, Nelson; Lafont, Ugo; Nunes, João P.

Electrical impedance tomography (EIT) is being developed as promising non-intrusive technology for damage detection in conductive fibre reinforced polymers (FRP) composites. This work assessed EIT and one-step difference Gaussian-Newton algorithm to detect different damages in CFRP laminates, including through-thickness holes and impact damage of different severities. Two layup laminates were studied: quasi-iso...

Neuroevolutionary multiobjective optimization of injection stretch blow molding...

Pinto, Renê S.; Silva, Hugo M.; Duarte, Fernando M.; Nunes, João P.; Gaspar-Cunha, A.

Injection stretch blow molding is a very important thermoplastic processing technique producing hollow containers with mechanical performance. One of the main challenges in optimizing this process consists in finding the best thickness profile for each part in order to achieve the desired mechanical properties with less material use. In a previous study, a new methodology based on a neuroevolutionary multiobjec...

Downscaling is usually necessary for robust hydrological impact assessments. This may be undertaken using a wide range of methods, including a combination of dynamical and statistical‐stochastic downscaling. This study uses the Spatial–Temporal Neyman‐Scott Rectangular Pulses model—RainSimV3, the precipitation‐conditioned daily weather generator—ICAAM‐WG, and the change factor approach for downscaling synthetic...

Assessing the role of pre-fire ground preparation operations and soil water rep...

Malvar, Maruxa C.; Martins, Martinho A. S.; Nunes, João P.; Robichaud, Peter R.; Keizer, J. Jacob

This study addressed the impacts of contrasting pre-fire ground preparation operations on post-fire runoff and inter-rill erosion in six eucalypt plantations in north-central Portugal, with a special emphasis on the role of soil water repellency in the seasonal patterns of overland flow generation. To this end, a down slope ploughed, a contour ploughed and a terraced site were compared with three unploughed sit...

Assessment of coastal management options by means of multilayered ecosystem models

Nobre, Ana M.; Ferreira, João G.; Nunes, João P.; Yan, Xiaojun; Bricker, Suzanne; Corner, Richard; Groom, Steve; Gu, Haifeng; Hawkins, Anthony J. S.

This paper presents a multilayered ecosystem modelling approach that combines the simulation of the biogeochemistry of a coastal ecosystem with the simulation of the main forcing functions, such as catchment loading and aquaculture activities. This approach was developed as a tool for sustainable management of coastal ecosystems. A key feature is to simulate management scenarios that account for changes in mult...
