This paper provides a review of the literature on the use of Pluronic (R) triblock copolymers for drug encapsulation over the last 10 years. A special focus is given to the progress of drug delivery systems (e.g., micelles, liposomes, micro/nanoemulsions, hydrogels and nanogels, and polymersomes and niosomes); the beneficial aspects of Pluronic (R) triblock copolymers as biological response modifiers and as pha...

Advances in Pancreatic Cancer treatment by Nano-Based drug delivery systems

Viegas, Cláudia; Patrício, Ana B.; Prata, João; Fonseca, Leonor; Macedo, Ana S.; Duarte, Sofia O. D.; Fonte, Pedro

Pancreatic cancer represents one of the most lethal cancer types worldwide, with a 5-year survival rate of less than 5%. Due to the inability to diagnose it promptly and the lack of efficacy of existing treatments, research and development of innovative therapies and new diagnostics are crucial to increase the survival rate and decrease mortality. Nanomedicine has been gaining importance as an innovative approa...

Guimarães, Ana; Freire, Filipe; Vilela, Pedro; Branco, Gabriel; Lemos, Vitor; Prata, João

Post-traumatic pseudoaneurysms of the internal carotid artery are a rare cause of epistaxis, that can be life-threatening if not adequatelly managed. We report a case of a pseudoaneurysm of the carotid artery presenting with massive epistaxis, 11 years after craniofacial trauma. Coil embolization of the pseudoaneurysm was performed and the patient had no further episodes of epistaxis with no neurologic sequelae....

NK/T-cell lymphoma is a rare subtype of lymphoma of the sinonasal tract, previously known as lethal midline granuloma. lt is characterized by the progressive destructíon of midfacial structures. We report the case of a 43 year old woman with NK/T-cell lymphoma, nasal-type with an extremely unusual locatíon in the oropharynx. Despite of being rare, there are well defined therapeutíc modalitíes available in the ma...
