Implementation of sine-fitting algorithms in systems with 32-bit floating point...

Ramos, Pedro M.; Radil, Tomas; Janeiro, Fernando M.

In this paper, an in-depth analysis of the implementation issues of sine-fitting algorithms in systems with 32-bit floating point representation is presented. The results obtained in 32-bit systems are compared with the ones obtained in 64-bit floating point representation systems. The four-parameter sine-fitting is an iterative algorithm and the criterion used to detect convergence is even more crucial in 32-b...

ON THE USE OF MULTI-HARMONIC LEAST-SQUARES FITTING FOR THD ESTIMATION IN POWER ...

Ramos, Pedro M.; Janeiro, Fernando M.; Radil, Tomas

The quality of the supplied power by electricity utilities is regulated and of concern to the end user. Power quality disturbances include interruptions, sags, swells, transients and harmonic distortion. The instruments used to measure these disturbances have to satisfy minimum requirements set by international standards. In this paper, an analysis of multi-harmonic least-squares fitting algorithms applied to t...

Comparative Analysis Of Three Algorithms For Two-Channel Common Frequency Sinew...

Ramos, Pedro; Janeiro, Fernando; Radil, Tomas

In this paper, a comparison analysis of three different algorithms for the estimation of sine signal parameters in two-channel common frequency situations is presented. The relevance of this situation is clearly understood in multiple applications where the algorithms have been applied. They include impedance measurements, eddy currents testing, laser anemometry and radio receiver testing for example. The three...

Sine-Fitting Algorithms Implemented in 32-bit Floating Point Systems

Ramos, Pedro; Radil, Tomas; Janeiro, Fernando

The implementation issues of the iterative four-parameter sine-fitting algorithm in DSPs and other devices with floating point processors with 32 bits (called binary 32) are analyzed in this paper. Direct comparison with a PC based algorithm implementation, where floating point numbers are represented with 64 bits (called binary 64), is performed.

Comparison of Impedance Measurements in a DSP using Ellipse-fit and Seven-Param...

Ramos, Pedro M.; Janeiro, Fernando M.; Radil, Tomas

In this paper, two DSP implemented algorithms for impedance measurements are compared. Previously published results demonstrate the usefulness of sine-fit algorithms and ellipse-fit algorithms for impedance measurements where two channels are simultaneously acquired with analog to digital converters. The comparison between the two implemented algorithms is done by analyzing the average execution time, memory re...

Performance Comparison of Three Algorithms for Two-Channel Sinewave Parameter E...

Ramos, Pedro M.; Janeiro, Fernando M.; Radil, Tomas

The comparison of three different algorithms for the estimation of parameters of two sine signals with common frequency is presented. The algorithms are the ellipse fit, the seven parameter sine fit and the spectral sinc fit. The comparison includes signal to noise ratio analysis, amplitude analysis and phase difference analysis.

Development and Implementation of Algorithms for Power Quality Measurements

Ramos, Pedro M.; Radil, Tomas; Janeiro, Fernando M.; Serra, A. C.

In recent years, power quality measurements are one of the research topics of the Instrumentation and Measurement Group of Instituto de Telecomunicações. This paper summarizes the latest achievements. The paper describes the proposed algorithms for detection and classification of power quality disturbances and the new measuring instruments that were developed.

Development of a real-time Power quality monitoring Instrument for Detection an...

Radil, Tomas; Matz, Vaclav; Ramos, Pedro M.; Janeiro, Fernando M.; Serra, António C.

In this paper, the initial development stages of a power quality monitoring instrument are described. The paper is focused on new algorithms developed for real-time detection and classification of power quality disturbances. The developed algorithms aim to cover a wide range of disturbances that may occur in a power system and that may differ in their characteristics (e.g. magnitude or duration). The algorithms...

On-line Detection and Classification of Power Quality Disturbances in a Single-...

Radil, Tomas; Matz, Vaclav; Janeiro, Fernando M.; Ramos, Pedro M.; Serra, António C.

A new method for detection and classification of power quality (PQ) disturbances in single-phase power systems is presented in this paper. The method detects transients, waveform distortions and short and long duration disturbances such as sags or swells. The method was developed with special consideration for its suitability for implementation in a digital signal processor (DSP) and for real-time operation. Th...

Power Quality Monitoring in a Single-phase Power System

Radil, Tomas; Janeiro, Fernando M.; Ramos, Pedro M.; Serra, António C.

In this paper, the results obtained using a new method for detection and classification of power quality (PQ) disturbances in single-phase power systems are presented. The method detects transients, waveform distortions and short and long duration disturbances such as sags, swells and interruptions. The proposed method was implemented in a measuring system and used for continuous monitoring of a single-phase po...
