The production of Gd5(Si,Ge)4 compounds in reduced dimensionality, through pulsed laser deposition (PLD), have shown their potential for practical applications. Here, we present nanoparticles ranging from 10 to 27 nm of average particle size of Gd5(SixGe1-x)4, with x = 0, 0.45 and 0.60, obtained using an Nd:Yag (1064 nm) and an Excimer KrF laser (248 nm). Synchrotron X-ray Diffraction measurements revealed a re...
The control of quantum correlations in solid-state systems by means of material engineering is a broad avenue to be explored, since it makes possible steps toward the limits of quantum mechanics and the design of novel materials with applications on emerging quantum technologies. In this context, this letter explores the potential of molecular magnets to be prototypes of materials for quantum information techno...

The syntheses, crystal structures, and magnetic properties of two new copper(II) complexes with molecular formulas [Cu-7((2)-OH2)(6)((3)-O)(6)(adenine)(6)](NO3)(2)6H(2)O (1) and [Cu-2((2)-H2O)(2)(adenine)(2)(H2O)(4)](NO3)(4)2H(2)O (2) are reported. The heptanuclear compound is composed of a central octahedral CuO6 core sharing edges with six adjacent copper octahedra. In 2, the copper octahedra shares one equat...

In this paper we explore the magnetocaloric effect (MCE) of chromium-doped elpasolite Cs2NaAl1-x,CrxF6 (x = 0.01 and 0.62) single crystals. Magnetization and heat capacity data show the magnetocaloric potentials to be comparable to those of garnets, perovskites, and other fluorides, producing magnetic entropy changes of 0.5 J/kg K (x = 0.01) and 11 J/kg K (x = 0.62), and corresponding adiabatic temperature chan...
