Background: The FAO recommends the digestible indispensable amino acid score (DIAAS) as the measure for protein quality, for which the true ileal digestibility needs to be assessed in humans or pigs. However, due to high costs and ethical concerns, the FAO strongly encourages as well the development of validated in vitro methods, which complement the in vivo experiments. Method: Recently, an in vitro workflow, ...

The composition of 50 samples of essential oil of individual plants of Juniperus phoenicea subsp. turbinata from Corsica was investigated by GC, GC-MS and 13C NMR. [alpha]-Pinene, [beta]-phellandrene, [alpha]-terpinyl acetate, [Delta]-3-carene, myrcene and [alpha]-phellandrene were found to be the main constituents. The results were submitted to cluster analysis and discriminant analysis which allowed two group...

The essential oil composition of 68 individual plants of Juniperus phoenicea from Portugal was investigated by GC, GC-MS and 13C NMR. [alpha]-Pinene, [beta]-phellandrene, [alpha]-terpinyl acetate and myrcene were found to be the main constituents. Botanical and chemical data as well as phytogeographical distribution indicate J. phoenicea var. turbinata as the unique subspecies occurring in Portugal. Nevertheles...
