Emotional competencies and physical activity in primary school children: A comp...

Antunes, Filipa; Antunes, Hélio; Rodrigues, Ana; Sabino, Bebiana; Ashraf, Sadaf; Sousa, Duarte; Carvalho, Joana

Children's emotional development is a determining factor for their school success and overall well-being. Additionally, physical activity is recognized as a relevant contribution in promoting emotional self-regulation, self-esteem, and social inclusion. This aspect is especially important in the inclusive educational context, where it seeks to respond to the needs of students with learning difficulties through ...

Increased risk of squamous cell carcinoma based on solar ultraviolet radiation ...

Paulo, Marília Silva; Castela, Maria Miguel; Strehl, Claudine; Carvalho, Fernanda; Loney, Tom; Modenese, Alberto; Gobba, Fabriziomaria

Introduction: Solar ultraviolet radiation (UVR) is one of the main causes of skin cancer, with squamous cell carcinoma (SCC) being particularly prevalent among outdoor workers due to chronic UVR exposure. Despite the increasing incidence of SCC in this group, cases remain under-reported and are not always classified as an occupational disease. Current guidelines for UVR exposure are established for a limit of 3...

Schoolbags represent a common source of physical strain for school-aged children and may influence posture during critical years of growth. This systematic review synthesizes evidence published since the previous review (1995–2014), which mainly focused on load thresholds and did not consider postural health as a multidimensional outcome. The review protocol was prospectively registered in PROSPERO (CRD...

Background: Up to one-third of people living with psoriasis develop psoriatic arthritis (PsA), and the majority have active psoriasis prior to the development of arthritis. Clinical risk factors, such as nail involvement, in conjunction with novel blood biomarkers, could improve PsA risk monitoring and early diagnosis. Objectives: The aim of the HIPPOCRATES Prospective Observational Study (HPOS—www.hpos.study) ...

Volunteer management in sports tourism events: Motivation and satisfaction as d...

Antunes, Hélio; Rodrigues, Ana; Gouveia, Élvio; Lopes, Helder; Sabino, Bebiana

Effective volunteer management in sports tourism events depends on understanding motivations, segmenting profiles, and fostering satisfaction to ensure continuity and event success. The purpose of this study was to examine volunteer motivation, investigate differences in motivation based on gender and age, and identify key predictors of the intention to continue volunteering. The sample consisted of 390 partici...

Existence of non trivial embeddings of interval exchange transformations into p...

Peres, Pedro; Rodrigues, Ana

We prove that almost every interval exchange transformation, with an associated translation surface of genus ≥2 , can be non-trivially and isometrically embedded in a family of piecewise isometries. In particular, this proves the existence of invariant curves for piecewise isometries, reminiscent of Kolmogorov–Arnold–Moser (KAM) curves for area-preserving maps, which are not unions of circle arcs or line segments.

Renormalization of translated cone exchange transformations

Cockram, Noah; Ashwin, Peter; Rodrigues, Ana

In this paper, we investigate a class of non-invertible piecewise isometries on the upper half-plane known as Translated Cone Exchanges. These maps include a simple interval exchange on a boundary we call the baseline. We provide a geometric construction for the first return map to a neighbourhood of the vertex of the middle cone for a large class of parameters, then we show a recurrence in the first return map...

Physical fitness profiles of young female team sport athletes from portuguese r...

Rodrigues, Ana; Sabino, Bebiana; Gomes, Margarida; Bento, Pedro; Loureiro, Nuno

Background: Sports performance indicators are mainly based on male athletes, highlighting the importance of portraying the female reality, particularly in rural contexts. This study aims to characterize sports performance indicators (body composition and physical fitness) of young Portuguese female athletes. Methods: A cross-sectional study was conducted with 124 girls (13.66 ± 1.93 years) participating in fede...

Prostate cancer progression: a scoping review, pharmacoeconomic assessment, and...

AIMS/BACKGROUND: Prostate cancer is the most common malignancy in men and a leading cause of cancer-related death. Progression from non-metastatic castration-resistant prostate cancer (nmCRPC) to metastatic CRPC (mCRPC) significantly worsens health-related quality of life (HRQoL), increases mortality, and raises healthcare costs. This study assessed the impact of avoiding or delaying progression to mCRPC on HRQ...
