This study verified the efficiency of ovitraps combined with Saccharopolyspora spinosa and Bacillus thuringiensis israelensis for monitoring Aedes aegypti and Aedes albopictus in laboratory and field conditions. In the laboratory, for A. aegypti, there was no difference in eggs number between treatments and grass infusions. For A. albopictus, the average of eggs was higher in the grass infusion. In the dry seas...

Bacillus thuringiensis (Bt) is a bacterium of worldwide interest, due to its high toxicity to a wide range of insect vectors of pathogens to humans and agricultural pests. The insecticidal action of Bt is conferred by the presence of protein crystals, which act as toxins. Several studies are carried out in order to select Bt strains from different ecosystems with mosquitocidal action for vector insects. It is o...

Fungi are a prolific source of biologically active metabolites, including a wide range of clinically important drugs. Therefore, this study aims to evaluate the antimicrobial and cytotoxic activity of secondary metabolites extracted from fungal mycelia isolated from freshwater samples in the state of Amazonas. Mycelial extracts from 12 fungal were used, extracted with MeOH/AcOEt (1:1) according to the criteria ...

Malaria, a mosquito-borne infectious disease, is considered a significant global health burden. Climate changes or different weather conditions may impact infectious diseases, specifically those transmitted by insect vectors and contaminated water. Based on the current predictions for climate change associated with the increase in carbon dioxide concentrations in the atmosphere and the increase in atmospheric t...

The most preferred containers by Aedes aegypti were studied April and July (rainy and dry periods) in two Manaus neighbourhoods. In all, 2,700 premises and 13,912 containers were examined, most (87%) recorded outdoors. Out of the 13,100 inspected premises, only 1.6% showed to be positive for Aedes aegypti, summing up to 7,916 collected samples. Most frequently found containers outdoors in either neighbourhood r...
