Low energy muon study of the p-n interface in chalcopyrite solar cells

Alberto, H. V.; Vilão, R. C.; Ribeiro, E. F. M.; Gil, J. M.; Curado, M. A.; Teixeira, J. P.; Fernandes, P. A.; Cunha, J. M. V.; Salomé, P. M. P.

The slow muon technique was used to study the p-n junction of chalcopyrite solar cells. A defect layer near the interface was identi ed and the passivation of the defects by bu er layers was studied. Several cover layers on top of the chalcopyrite Cu(In,Ga)Se2 (CIGS) semiconductor absorber were investigated in this work, namely CdS, ZnSnO, Al2O3 and SiO2. Quantitative results were obtained: The defect layer ext...

Cu(In,Ga)Se2 based ultrathin solar cells the pathway from lab rigid to large sc...

Lopes, T. S.; Teixeira, J. P.; Curado, M. A.; Ferreira, B. R.; Oliveira, A. J. N.; Cunha, J. M. V.; Monteiro, M.; Violas, A.; Barbosa, J. R. S.

The incorporation of interface passivation structures in ultrathin Cu(In,Ga)Se2 based solar cells is shown. The fabrication used an industry scalable lithography technique—nanoimprint lithography (NIL)—for a 15 × 15 cm2 dielectric layer patterning. Devices with a NIL nanopatterned dielectric layer are benchmarked against electron-beam lithography (EBL) patterning, using rigid substrates. The NIL patterned devic...

Over 100 mV VOC improvement for rear passivated ACIGS ultra‐thin solar cells

Oliveira, Antonio; Rocha Curado, Marco; Teixeira, J. P.; Tomé, Daniela; Çaha, Ihsan; Oliveira, Kevin; Lopes, Tomás; Monteiro, Margarida; Violas, André

A decentralized energy system requires photovoltaic solutions to meet new aesthetic paradigms, such as lightness, flexibility, and new form factors. Notwithstanding, the materials shortage in the Green Transition is a concern gaining momentum due to their foreseen continuous demand. A fruitful strategy to shrink the absorber thickness, meeting aesthetic and shortage materials consumption targets, arises from in...

Comparative analysis of the toxicity profile of eleven consumer-relevant nanoma...

Pires, J.; Moreira, L.; Teixeira, J. P.; Fraga, S.

Background: The growing number of items incorporating nanomaterials (NM) has prompted considerable concerns about human health and safety [1]. Metal nanoparticles, inorganic non-metallic, and carbon-based NM are among the types with the highest market volume [2]. Objective: The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of chemical composition [Ag, Au, TiO2, SiO2, and graphene oxide (nano_GO)], primary s...

Fighting occupational risks among Portuguese wildland firefighters: looking at ...

Esteves, F.; Slezakova, K.; Madureira, J.; Vaz, J.; Fernandes, A.; Carmo, M.; Morais, S.; Teixeira, J. P.; Costa, S.

Background: Evidence linking wildland firefighters’ occupational exposure and health outcomes is still limited. Cytogenetic endpoints have long been applied in the surveillance of human genotoxic exposures and early effects of genotoxic carcinogens. Therefore, it is of utmost importance to clarify the exposure-induced cytogenetic effects concerning wildland firefighters’ occupational exposure at different time ...

Sousa, A. C. M.; Pastorinho, M. R.; Masjedi, M. R.; Urrutia-Pereira, M.; Arrais, M.; Nunes, E.; To, T.; Ferreira, A. J.; Robalo-Cordeiro, C.

Objective: To analyse the GARD perspective on the health effects of outdoor air pollution, and to synthesise the Portuguese epidemiological contribution to knowledge on its respiratory impact. Results: Ambient air pollution has deleterious respiratory effects which are more apparent in larger, densely populated and industrialised countries, such as Canada, Iran, Brazil and Portugal, but it also affects people l...

Insights into corrosion behaviour of uncoated Mg alloys for biomedical applicat...

Neves, C. S.; Sousa, L.; Freitas, M. A.; Costa, C.; Teixeira, J. P.; Fraga, S.; Pinto, Edgar; Almeida, A.; Scharnagl, N.; Zheludkevich, M. L.

MgCa and MgGd series of alloys are often reported as promising candidates for biomedical applications. In the present study, cytotoxicity and corrosion behavior of Mg1Ca and Mg10Gd alloys in different electrolytes (NaCl, PBS, MEM) have been investigated in order to make a direct comparison and understand the mechanisms behind their performance. Potentiodynamic polarization and electrochemical impedance spectros...
