According to the World Health Organization, about 20% of adolescents may develop a depressive episode after age 15 if they are not the target of preventive intervention. In this study, we present the foundations, structure, main contents, and resources of a depression prevention and mental health promotion program aimed at 3rd-cycle adolescents: SMSyouth. The SMSyouth program is a structured group intervention ...

Evaluating Use and Attitudes Towards Social Media and ICT for Portuguese youth:...

Costa, Jose J. M.; Matos, Ana Paula; Rosario, Maria do Pinheiro; Salvador, Maria do Céu; Luz Vale-Dias, Maria da; Zenha-Rela, Mário

MMeasures on usage and attitudes towards ICT and social media are very diverse hindering the comparability of data. Due to its heavy use by young Portuguese, it is relevant to have comprehensive and accurate measurement tools. The main aims were to translate and adapt The Media and Technology Usage and Attitudes Scale (Rosen, Whaling, Carrier and Rokkum, 2013a) for the young Portuguese and to analyze the psycho...

The use of Embedded Smart Modules for Designing Standard-based and Reconfigurab...

Costa, Ricardo J.; Alves, Gustavo R.; Zenha-Rela, Mário

The Internet appearance has been changing engineering education. Both students and teachers can now access educational resources using Internet-accessible devices, such as PCs, smart phones or tablets. The collaboration among institutions was improved, since different and specialized resources are easily shared and disseminated, contributing to the improvement of engineering courses. While at the beginning thos...

An FPGA-embedded oscilloscope based on the IEEE1451.0 Std.

Costa, Ricardo; Pinho, Diogo; Alves, Gustavo R.; Zenha-Rela, Mário

Digital oscilloscopes are adopted in several areas of knowledge, in particular in electrical engineering, since they are fundamental for measuring and classifying electrical signals. Thanks to the proliferation of Field Programmable Gate Arrays (FPGAs), embedded instruments are currently an alternative solution to stand-alone and modular instruments, traditionally available in the laboratories. High performance...

A demo prototype of a reconfigurable IEEE1451.0-compliant and FPGA-based weblab

Costa, Ricardo J.; Alves, Gustavo R.; Zenha-Rela, Mário

A reconfigurable weblab prototype was designed according to the I E E E1451.0 Std. based on FPG As. A brief introduction about its architecture and underlying infrastructure is presented. After an overview about the main features of the weblab, namely the standard access and the reconfiguration capability, the proposed demonstration for the exhibition session is described.

FPGAs to create a reconfigurable IEEE1451.0-compliant weblab infrastructure

Costa, Ricardo J.; Alves, Gustavo R.; Zenha-Rela, Mário

The reconfiguration capability provided by Field Programmable Gate Arrays (FPGA) and the current limitations of weblab infrastructures, opened a new research window. This paper focus on describing the way weblabs can be reconfigured with different Instruments & Modules (I&M) required to conduct remote experiments, without changing the entire infrastructure. For this purpose, the paper emphasizes the advantage o...

Peers' evaluation of a reconfigurable IEEE1451.0-compliant and FPGA-based weblab

Costa, Ricardo J.; Alves, Gustavo R.; Zenha-Rela, Mário; Zutin, D. G.; Zackrisson, J.; Rochadel, Willian; Henandez-Jayo, Unai

It is already more than 10 years that weblabs are seen as important resources to provide the experimental work required in engineering education. Several weblabs have been applied in engineering courses, but there are still unsolved problems related to the development of their infrastructures. For solving some of those problems, it was implemented a weblab with a reconfigurable infrastructure compliant with the...

Embedding instruments & modules into an IEEE1451-FPGA-Based weblab infrastructure

Costa, Ricardo; Alves, Gustavo R.; Zenha-Rela, Mário

Adopting standard-based weblab infrastructures can be an added value for spreading their influence and acceptance in education. This paper suggests a solution based on the IEEE1451.0 Std. and FPGA technology for creating reconfigurable weblab infrastructures using Instruments and Modules (I&Ms) described through standard Hardware Description Language (HDL) files. It describes a methodology for creating and bind...

Reconfigurable IEEE1451-FPGA based weblab infrastructure

Costa, Ricardo J.; Alves, Gustavo R.; Zenha-Rela, Mário

Weblabs are spreading their influence in Science and Engineering (S&E) courses providing a way to remotely conduct real experiments. Typically, they are implemented by different architectures and infrastructures supported by Instruments and Modules (I&Ms) able to be remotely controlled and observed. Besides the inexistence of a standard solution for implementing weblabs, their reconfiguration is limited to a se...
