Since the second quarter of the 20th century, the journal Arquivo Histórico da Madeira has occupied a place of the utmost relevance in the history of knowledge creation and of heritage safeguarding regarding Madeira Archipelago. As so, it is the oldest journal concerning history and culture still being published in the archipelago. Honoring the memory and legacy of those 90 years, the Madeira Archives and Library Department, via its Centre for Atlantic History Studies – Alberto Vieira, publishes, since 2019, the Arquivo Histórico da Madeira, New Series. The journal issue articles regarding History, Memory, and Heritage – material and immaterial – of the archipelago and is centered on the scientific areas of History, Humanities and Social Sciences, and Archival Studies.
