Description

This study aimed to analyse and understand the relationship between children’s literature and Visual Arts, recognizing their potential to promote meaningful learning experiences in Early Childhood Education. The intervention was grounded the OCEPE and in the pedagogical models of the institution, consistently valuing creativity, imagination, and, above all, children’s free expression. The educational practice consisted of a didactic sequence of three sessions carried out with children aged between four and five years old. The activities involved storytelling and the creation of visual artworks, emphasizing interdisciplinarity across different areas of learning. The sessions took place mainly in outdoor spaces, using diverse materials and sensory strategies that fostered a love of reading, artistic expression, and autonomy. The evaluation was conducted through the observation of interactions, the analysis of the children’s artistic productions, and the reflection on their creative processes. The results revealed active engagement, idea sharing, and appreciation of the group’s interests, factors that contributed to cognitive, social, and emotional development. Despite the challenges related to the short duration of the intervention and the occasional absences of some children, the established objectives were successfully achieved. In conclusion, the integration of children’s literature and Visual Arts constitutes an enriching pedagogical practice that promotes creativity and critical thinking, reinforcing the educator’s role as a mediator of meaningful learning experiences.
