The “Photofônica” Experimentation, the central object of this research, aims to contribute to both the academic and artistic communities by exploring the interfaces between sound and image in contemporary creation. It is conceived as a performative experience that fuses, in real time, sonic gesture and photographic image, materializing in an audiovisual performance. The visual source material for this creation derives from the “Fotuberização” performance, an experimental work that combines the photographer’s lived experience with the daily routine of a ride-hailing driver, documenting the city of Coimbra in its multiple moments, from historical documents of the ASCHC – Arquivo Sonoro do Centro Histórico de Coimbra, from the author’s musical and affective relationship with the acoustic guitar, and from his training in sound design. The research articulates historical memory, sonic and visual practices, and critical reflection, proposing the creation of the “Guitonarumori,” a hybrid performative artifact composed of an acoustic guitar, a mechanical sound device, and electronic interfaces. This device interacts with photographic records in live poetic actions, navigating the thresholds between the audible and the visible. Grounded in an autoethnographic approach, the project also draws on the concept of precariousness, exploring the tensions between artistic creation and survival, between the precarious gesture and the poetic construction of new modes of listening and visibility. The creative process, shaped by the artist’s condition as an immigrant, reveals how affective trajectories and both physical and symbolic displacements shape artistic practice. Engaging with thinkers such as Benjamin, Calle, and Eco, the research understands artistic practice as a way of interrogating everyday life, the city, and its regimes of visibility. The central question guiding this investigation is: in what ways can the convergence of a sound archive and urban imagery expand the possibilities of experimentation in contemporary artistic creation through audiovisual performance, while reinforcing the collective memory and cultural identity of the city of Coimbra?

A Experimentação “Photofônica”, objeto central desta investigação, propõe contribuir para a comunidade académica e artística ao explorar as interfaces entre som e imagem na criação contemporânea. Trata-se de uma experiência performativa que funde, em tempo real, gesto sonoro e imagem fotográfica, materializando-se numa performance audiovisual. A fonte visual dessa criação provém da performance “Fotuberização”, trabalho experimental que une a vivência do fotógrafo à rotina de motorista de aplicativo, registrando a cidade de Coimbra em seus múltiplos momentos, de documentos históricos do ASCHC, Arquivo Sonoro do Centro Histórico de Coimbra, da experiência musical e afetiva do autor com a guitarra acústica e da sua formação em design de som. A pesquisa articula memória histórica, práticas sonoras e visuais e reflexão crítica, propondo a criação do “Guitonarumori”, um artefato performativo híbrido composto por uma guitarra acústica, um dispositivo sonoro mecânico e interfaces eletrônicas. Esse dispositivo interage com registros fotográficos em ações poéticas ao vivo, navegando entre o audível e o visível. Fundamentado em uma abordagem autoetnográfica, o projeto ancora-se também nos conceitos de precarização, explorando os limites entre criação e sobrevivência, entre o gesto precário e a construção poética de novas formas de escuta e visibilidade. O processo criativo, atravessado pela condição do artista imigrante, revela como as trajetórias afetivas e os deslocamentos físicos e simbólicos moldam a prática artística. Dialogando com autores como Benjamin, Calle e Eco, a pesquisa compreende a prática artística como forma de interrogar o cotidiano, a cidade e os próprios regimes de visibilidade. A pergunta central que orienta esta pesquisa é: de que maneira a convergência entre um arquivo sonoro e imagens urbanas pode ampliar as possibilidades de experimentação na criação artística contemporânea em uma performance audiovisual, ao mesmo tempo em que reforça a memória coletiva e a identidade cultural da cidade de Coimbra?
