Description

This article is situated within the debate on initial education of Portuguese lan-guage teachers in the field of Applied Linguistics (AL), considering the formative role of this discipline in undergraduate Language and Literature programs, duran-ting a teacher internship. Its main objective is to analyze the contributions of the Applied Linguistics course to the constitution of the Portuguese language teacher in initial education, based on a teaching internship experience in Higher Education. The study is grounded in contemporary Applied Linguistics, especially in Moita Lopes (2006), Candlin (2001), and Cavalcanti (1986), articulated with discussions on teaching internship, reflective practice Lima e Pimenta (2006), and multiliteracies (Rojo & Moura, 2019). This is a qualitative study of a reflective-analytical nature, configured as a case study aligned with bibliographic research, whose data were constructed through participant observation, teaching practice, and records sys-tematized in the internship report. We conclude that the discipline constitutes a privileged space for articulating theory and practice, contributing to the critical and situated education of Portuguese language teachers.
