This work aims at reflecting on the popular short story. Initially, itsfundamental characteristics and its specificities as a genre, its classification, language and itselements will be presented. Then, after this general approach, the work will discuss therelations between the popular short story and the myth. In order to illustrate and reaffirmthe importance and richness of the popular short story, as well as its faint borders with themyth, an Indian short story will be presented; it was chose among the 21 Indian-originBrazilian popular short stories gathered by author Silvio Romero. A brief analysis of thisshort story will be made, having as main theoretical tool the theory proposed by AlanDunces, North American, in its book The Morphology of North. American Indian folktales and others essays (1996).
O presente trabalho tem por objetivo fazer uma reflexão acerca do contopopular. Inicialmente, apresentar-se-á suas características fundamentais e suasespecificidades como gênero, sua classificação, sua linguagem, seus elementos. Logo apósessa abordagem geral, o trabalho discutirá as relações entre o conto popular e o mito. Paraexemplificar e reafirmar a importância e riqueza do conto popular, bem como suas tênuesfronteiras com o mito, será apresentado um conto indígena, selecionado entre os 21 contospopulares brasileiros de origem indígena coletados pelo autor Silvio Romero. Uma breveanálise desse conto será realizada, tendo como principal ferramental teórico a teoriaproposta pelo norte-americano Alan Dundes, em sua obra Morfologia e estrutura no conto folclórico (1996).
