The first part of this article presents a global view of the social structure of Angola at the present time and examines the historical process - where several fundamental phases are to be distinguished - which gave birth to such structure. It follows an analysis of the importance of the educational system upon the consolidation of such structure. Considering the former analysis it is then studied on generical terms, the necessary conditions to the attainment of a new «social project» for Angola, directed by a certain number of essential principles, generally accepted by the political trends which express, in Angola the aspirations of the different strata of the population. A «patent of society» is thus sketched for the Angola of the future, a pattern rooled in racial and ethnic conviviality, in «social justice», in integrated economical development and real independence. As a conclusion, some junctions are pointed out which seem to pertain to the educational system, in the reconvertion of angolan society.

Na primeira parte deste artigo, traça-se um quadro global da estrutura social angolana tal como hoje se apresenta, e examina-se o processo histórico —em que se distinguem diversas fases fundamentais— através do qual essa estrutura se constituiu. Analisa-se, seguidamente o papel desempenhado, na formação e consolidação dessa estrutura, por um dos mecanismos sociais mais importantes: o sistema de ensino. A partir das análises anteriores, estudam-se depois, em termos genéricos, as condições necessárias à concretização de um novo «projecto societal» angolano, regido por um certo número de principias essenciais, geralmente aceites pelas formações políticas que exprimem, em Angola, as aspirações dos diversos segmentos da população. Esboça-se, deste modo, um «modelo societal» para a Angola do futuro, modelo fundado na convivência racial e étnica, na «justiça social», no desenvolvimento económico integrado e na independência efectiva. A concluir, apontam-se algumas funções que parecem caber ao sistema de ensino, na reconversão da sociedade angolana.
