Descrição

This article examines China's strategy in the field of peace and security in Africa and the African Unions agency between 2012 and 2024. It argues that, while China mobilizes multilateralism through UN peace operations, China-Africa Cooperation Forum and the Global Security Initiative to build legitimacy, the African Union instrumentalizes this engagement to strengthen the African Peace and Security Architecture and reduce dependencies on Western donors. The analysis takes the continental organization as its unit of observation, distinguishing it from African states, and draws on primary documentary sources. It concludes that its agency lies less in setting the Sino-African security agenda than in converting external resources into institutional capability.
