This article is to be the first of a short series of texts where shall be examined the evolution of primary education in Portugal, during the thirties, relating it to the development both of capitalism and Portuguese fascism. The main items to be approached refer to the first education law system of the «Estado Novo», to the purposes expected of primary schooling and to the contents of such teaching. Its most significant ideological aspects are underlined in short synthesis.

Este artigo é o primeiro de uma pequena série de textos onde se examinará a evolução do ensino primário em Portugal durante os anos 80, relacionando-a com o desenvolvimento, quer do capitalismo, quer do fascismo português. Os pontos nele abordados referem-se à primeira legislação educacional do Estado Novo, aos objectivos atribuídos à escola primária e aos conteúdos do ensino. Sublinham-se, em breves sínteses, os seus aspectos ideológicos mais significativos.
