Based on the present Cantiga de Afonso X, the Sage, where the name of Pero of Spain is mentioned, there are authors who affirm, from the text, probable cultural relations between the castilian king and Pedro Hispano. Others though not claiming the existence of intellectual relations, interpret the four names cited in the  composition, as totally distinct characters, besides identifying Pero of Spain with Pedro Hispano, future Portuguese pope, John XXI. In view of the analysis and the most recent investigations into the above-mentioned Sing of the Sage King, it seems unsustainable not only the individualization of the characters, but the much-touted cultural relationship.

Baseados na presente Cantiga de Afonso X, o Sábio, onde é mencionado o nome de Pero d’Espanha, há autores que afirmam, a partir do texto, prováveis relações culturais entre o rei castelhano e Pedro Hispano. Outros,  porém, embora n.o afirmem a exist.ncia de relações de carácter intelectual, interpretam os quatro nomes citados na composição, como personagens totalmente distintos, para além de identificarem Pero d’Espanha com o Pedro Hispano, futuro papa português, João XXI. Ora, tendo em consideração a análise e as mais recentes  investigações, sobre o referido Cantar do Rei Sábio, parece insustentável não apenas a individualização dos personagens, como tão apregoado relacionamento cultural.
