The Capital needs a favourable scenario for its reproduction and the lack of institutional guarantees can become a substantial limitation. Although its mobility is an intrinsic characteristic of the current phase of globalization, this is the reason that the Catalan secessionist attempt, which reached its peak with the referendum of 1 October 2017, promoted the transfer of a big number of companies in this Community to other Spanish regions, mainly to the Community of Madrid. This paper is structured in three sections and aims to analyze the historical and political circumstances in which this process occurred, as well as its consequences (loss of millions of euros in bank deposits, transfer of management centers, cancellation of international events, reduction in the number of tourists, etc.). Likewise, it examines, from opinions of experts, the effects that this process will continue to have in this and other Spanish Autonomous Communities. El capital necesita un escenario favorable para su reproducción, y la falta de garantías institucionales puede transformarse en una limitación substancial. Aunque su movilidad es una característica intrínseca de la fase de globalización actual, este es el motivo por el que el intento secesionista catalán, que tuvo su auge con el referéndum del 1 de octubre de 2017, impulsó el traslado de un gran número de empresas de esta Comunidad a otras regiones españolas, principalmente a la Comunidad de Madrid. Este texto está estructurado en tres apartados y tiene como objetivo analizar las circunstancias históricas y políticas en las que este proceso ocurrió, así como sus consecuencias (pérdida de millones de euros en depósitos bancarios, traslado de centros de gestión, cancelación de eventos internacionales, reducción del número de turistas, etc.). Asimismo, examina, desde opiniones de expertos, los efectos que este proceso continuará teniendo en ésta y otras Comunidades Autónomas españolas.
