Following the collaborative actions between Universidade Aberta and Nova University of Lisbon, within the scope of the Lisbon Region Consortium of the Universities Portugal – Connecting Knowledge project (2023), in the area of information science, particular emphasis is placed on critical reflection on three emerging research areas, following the interest in the impact of artificial intelligence on research and digital interactions: 1) The interactions between information science and digital humanities, increasing cooperation, access and use of information/data management and research; 2) The development of the Digital Humanism movement (Werthner, 2020) and the discussion around a humanist artificial intelligence, focused on human rights and the sustainability of information (Werthner et al., 2022), analyzing digitization, automation and robotization from an ethical perspective. From this perspective, digital humanism can be defined as an approach that describes, analyzes and influences the complex interaction between technology and humanity, promoting a more just society, fully respecting universal human rights; 3) The cross-cutting importance of digital ethics (Floridi, 2015, 2016) considers whether ethical principles and norms remain morally valid and adequate for the current and future stages, opportunities, and risks of digital transformation, characterizing new forms of technological dependence, for which ethical governance is necessary (Malheiro et al., 2024). Thus, the aim is to answer the question "What interactions can be established between the humanities and digital transformation?" by presenting the results of two years of joint strategic reflection.
