Researching the sky through a cultural-geographic approach can reveal the relationship between the symbolic universe present in the sky and everyday practices across different cultures. Studying the perception of celestial space as lived space is possible through a phenomenological approach, as it enables understanding how people relate to the sky, exploring it as part of their daily lives and a way to comprehend their own existence. However, in urban centers, this connection has been weakened by “sky erasure” due to light and pollution, while among traditional populations, the erasure is political, as hegemonic culture disregards their ancestral knowledge. This work aims to deepen the understanding of the sky’s influence on social relations based on individuals’ perceptions of the celestial space over Curitiba (Brazil). By framing the sky as a geographic space, it becomes possible to reclaim this connection in a world marked by haste. The methodology employed in this study sought to evoke the “sense of place” of the sky through photographs taken by nine individuals, focusing on daily life, territorialities, and the features of the sky in the urban landscape. By capturing the sky and reflecting on their daily experiences, people tend to develop a bond with it, restoring lost connections caused by urban expansion.

Pesquisar o céu por meio de uma abordagem geográfica cultural pode revelar a relação entre o universo simbólico presente no céu e as práticas cotidianas em diversas culturas. O estudo da percepção do espaço celeste como espaço vivido é possível por meio de uma abordagem fenomenológica, uma vez que possibilita entender as relações que as pessoas estabelecem com o céu, permitindo explorá-lo como parte do cotidiano do indivíduo, que busca nele, compreender sua própria existência. Em centros urbanos essa conexão tem sofrido com o “apagamento celeste” por meio da luminosidade e poluição, enquanto em comunidades tradicionais o apagamento do céu é político, visto que a cultura hegemônica desconsidera seus saberes por gerações. O trabalho objetiva aprofundar sobre a influência do céu nas relações sociais a partir das percepções dos indivíduos sobre o espaço celeste de Curitiba (Brasil). Ao situar o espaço celeste como um espaço geográfico é possível fazer um resgate dessa conexão em um mundo marcado pela pressa. A metodologia utilizada evocou a lugaridade do céu por meio de fotografias tiradas por nove pessoas, buscando o cotidiano, as territorialidades e as feições do céu na paisagem urbana. Ao registrar o céu e refletir suas experiências cotidianas, as pessoas tendem a criar um vínculo com o céu, restaurando conexões perdidas devido à expansão urbana.
