In this text we aim to outline the history of the investigation in Castro de Guifões. We also aim to present a summary of the current state of knowledge about the site, by incorporating the preliminary data obtained through the implementation of a Research Project in Archaeology. The settlement is located on the left bank of river Leça, now silted, but whose good navigability conditions are attested at least until the medieval times. Object of attention since the nineteenth century, reveals potential for investigation, mainly for enabling the understanding of Iron Age and Roman period in the regional context where is inserted. In 2016, within the Project GUIFARQ, new excavations began, and the first results suggest the persistence of the occupation up to Late Antiquity.
