The aim of this study was to evaluate the incident solar radiation in the surface of Potter peninsula, Maritime Antarctica and ascertain the infl uence of this parameter in the surface distribution of vegetation. The vegetation data have been generated from the classifi cation of a QuickBird satellite image (january/2007). The estimation of the incident solar radiation at the surface was made for summer, autumn, winter and spring seasons. Subsequently the classifi cation of surface in areas of light compensation point (PCL) and areas at point of saturation (PS) were carried out. Only the class of moss, which registered 23.5% and 5.9% of the vegetation inside the area of PCL for winter and autumn respectively, had displayed compatibility among the classifi ed area and the PCL area. The solar radiation was not considered a deterministic element in the spatial distribution of vegetation.
