Esta dissertação busca investigar a relação entre a comunidade da cidade de Piratini, no Rio Grande do Sul e a festa popular intitulada Bicharada do Ari, evento realizado desde o final da década de 1940, no período que antecede o Carnaval. Utilizando fotografias e, sobretudo, a História Oral, essa dissertação procura construir a história da festa, até então não registrada oficialmente. Além disso, procura descrever os rituais da festa, seus significados e discute seus valores patrimoniais, utilizando categorias como memória, identidade e patrimônio e questiona também a viabilidade/necessidade e impacto da candidatura dessa festa como patrimônio imaterial pelo Instituto do Patrimônio Histórico e Artístico Nacional (IPHAN). Partiu-se da premissa de que a festa não corre riscos de esquecimento, uma vez que é reproduzida anualmente pela comunidade e, embora tenha passado por significativas transformações durante as décadas, até apresentar o formato atual, mantém algumas das principais características originais do período de sua criação. Entretanto, como uma manifestação efêmera, não é possível, nem desejável, congelar as dinâmicas e as interpretações dessa manifestação popular viva da comunidade piratiniense. Para fins de registro, análise e quiçá uma instrumentação, foi empreendido um esforço nesse trabalho resultando na dissertação.

This dissertation seeks to investigate the relationship between the community of the city of Piratini, in Rio Grande do Sul and the popular party entitled Bicharada do Ari, an event held since the late 1940s, in the period before Carnival. Using photographs and, above all, Oral History, this dissertation seeks to construct the history of the party, which until then had not been officially registered. In addition, it seeks to describe the rituals of the party, their meanings and discuss their patrimonial values, using categories such as memory, identity and heritage and also questions the feasibility / necessity and impact of the candidacy of this party as immaterial heritage by the National Historical and Artistic Heritage Institute (IPHAN). It started from the premise that the party is not at risk of being forgotten, since it is reproduced annually by the community and, although it has undergone significant transformations during the decades, until it presents the current format, it maintains some of the main original characteristics of the period your creation. However, as an ephemeral manifestation, it is neither possible nor desirable to freeze the dynamics and interpretations of this lively popular manifestation of the Piratini community. For the purposes of registration, analysis and perhaps an instrumentation, an effort was made in this work resulting in the dissertation.
