O presente estudo apresenta o processo de construção de um inventário das inscrições tipográficas presentes nos imóveis históricos da cidade de Pelotas, visando sua valorização enquanto expressão de escrita, assim como sua preservação por meio do registro e documentação de suas ocorrências. A cidade de Pelotas foi escolhida em virtude do seu conjunto arquitetônico eclético apresentar um número considerável de inscrições tipográficas. As manifestações de escrita aqui inventariadas obedecem ao limite geográfico das Zonas de Preservação do Patrimônio Cultural, estabelecidas por lei municipal que busca resguardar as áreas da cidade de interesse histórico e cultural e ao limite temporal da produção arquitetônica realizada entre os anos de 1850 e 1930. O trabalho está estruturado em quatro capítulos. Após a introdução, o segundo capítulo apresenta as características da arquitetura eclética desenvolvida na cidade, assim como as funções e consequentes sistemas de classificação das inscrições tipográficas. O terceiro retrata o inventário como forma de preservação, mostrando suas origens e o processo de inventariamento adotado. O quarto capítulo expõe os resultados obtidos com a produção deste inventário. O quinto e último apresenta as conclusões sobre o estudo desenvolvido, mostrando a adequação do inventário realizado à função de organizar os dados relativos às inscrições para análise.

This study demonstrates the process of constructing an inventory of the typographic inscriptions as seen in the historical buildings of the city of Pelotas, aiming at its valorization as an expression of writing, as well as its preservation through the recording and documentation of its occurrences. The city of Pelotas was chosen because its eclectic architectural set shows a considerable number of typographic inscriptions. The written manifestations listed here follow the geographical limits of the Preservation Areas of Cultural Heritage established by municipal law that seeks to protect the areas of the city of historical and cultural interest within the time limit of the architectural production carried out between the years 1850 and 1930. The work is structured in four chapters. After a introduction, the second presents the characteristics of the eclectic architecture developed in the city, as well as the functions and consequent systems of classification of the typographic inscriptions. The third portrays the inventory as a form of preservation, showing its origins and the inventory process adopted. The fourth chapter exposes the results obtained with the production of the inventory. The fifth and last presents the conclusions about the study developed, showing the adequacy of the inventory carried out to the function of organizing the data related to the inscriptions for analysis.
