El presente trabajo tuvo por objetivo realizar un análisis del estado situacional de la producción, certificación y comercialización de semillas de maíz amarillo duro en el Perú. Las estrategias metodológicas consistieron en la recopilación de datos estadísticos del Ministerio de Agricultura y Riego y la Superintendencia Nacional de Administración Tributaria para los periodos entre 2010 y 2016, a fin de disponer de información detallada sobre área sembrada, distribución por regiones, evolución de la producción de grano comercial de maíz amarillo duro. La información detallada a nivel nacional para semilla certificada, tales como disponibilidad de materiales vegetales, productores de semillas, volúmenes de producción por cultivar fueron obtenidos a través de la Dirección de Gestión de la Innovación Agraria del Instituto Nacional de Innovación Agraria – INIA, información que es procesada por el Área de Regulación de Semillas de la Sub Dirección de Gestión de la Innovación Agraria, que ejerce actualmente las funciones de Autoridad en Semillas en el Perú. Esta información es a su vez recopilada de los Organismos Certificadores. Con esta información se caracterizó la producción nacional de semilla certificada en cuanto a disponibilidad de materiales vegetales que responden a las necesidades de los agricultores y al mercado, participación del sector público y privado, distribución geográfica de la producción de semillas, así como estos factores han evolucionado y cuál es su tendencia. Asimismo, se ha estimado la tasa de uso de semilla certificada e importada de maíz amarillo duro y su evolución. Para el análisis del abastecimiento de semilla importada, la información de ingreso al país procede de la Superintendencia Nacional de Administración Tributaria – SUNAT, con la cual se analiza las características, comportamiento y evolución del abastecimiento de semilla importada.
The objective of this work was to analyze the situation of the production, certification and marketing of hard yellow corn seeds in Peru. The methodological strategies consisted in the compilation of statistical data of the Ministry of Agriculture and Irrigation and the National Superintendence of Tax Administration for the periods of 2010 and 2016, in order to have detailed information on planted area, distribution by regions, production evolution of commercial grain of hard yellow corn. Detailed information at the national level for certified seed, such as availability of plant materials, seed producers, production volumes to be cultivated were obtained through the Agrarian Innovation Management Office of the National Institute of Agrarian Innovation – INIA. information that It is processed by the Seed Regulation Area of the Sub-Directorate of Agricultural Innovation Management, which currently exercises the functions of Seed Authority in Peru. This information is in turn compiled from the Certifying Bodies. With this information, the national production of certified seed was characterized in terms of availability of plant materials that respond to the needs of farmers and the market, participation of the public and private sector, geographical distribution of seed production, as well as these factors. Likewise, the rate of use of certified and imported hard yellow corn and its evolution has been estimated. For the analysis of the supply of imported seed, the information of entry into the country comes from the National Superintendency of Tax Administration - SUNAT, which analyzes the characteristics, behavior and evolution of the supply of imported seed.
