Partindo da concepção histórica Foucaultiana, este trabalho busca, através de metodologias advindas da pesquisa qualitativa, reconstruir a história da Sociedade Esportiva e Recreativa Caxias do Sul. Atentado à relação do clube para com a construção identitária dos ítalos-brasileiros, procura mostrar a linha tênue entre a história da S.E.R. Caxias e os altos e baixos no reforço identitário deste grupo étnico. Tomando o futebol como uma prática híbrida e representante da identidade nacional, torna-se necessário considerar as intensas representações que o envolvem no que tange ao reforço de diferentes etnias que compõem a nação brasileira. Especificamente em Caxias do Sul, esta prática foi apropriada de forma única pelos ítalos-brasileiros, que a inseriram dentro do contexto dos clubes sóciorecreativos. A prática do futebol, com certeza foi uma vertente muito utilizada pelos descendentes de italianos para a demarcação de seus costumes e valores morais e culturais. Devido á grande abrangência e popularidade desta prática, a possibilidade de ultrapassar as barreiras geográficas e culturais para o enaltecimento dos ítalosbrasileiros, era uma realidade. Do Grêmio Esportivo Flamengo à S.E.R. Caxias esta prerrogativa foi uma constante. Esta apropriação um tanto particular, fez do futebol em Caxias do Sul, especificamente, da S.E.R. Caxias, um marco identitário e mediador dos feitos positivos desta identidade. Criou-se, um vínculo direto entre o clube em questão e a identidade ítalo-brasileira, o qual é visível até hoje.

Starting from Foucault's historical conception, this work aims, through methodologies coming from the qualitative research, to reconstruct the history of the Sociedade Esportiva e Recreativa Caxias do Sul. Due to the relationship of the club to the identity construction of the Italian-Brazilian tries to show the thin line between the history of S.E.R. Caxias and the ups and downs in the identity reinforcement of this ethnic group. Taking soccer as a hybrid practice and representative of the national identity, It is necessary to consider the intense representations that involve it in what it in the reinforcement of different ethnic groups that the Brazilian nation is composed. Specifically in Caxias do Sul, this practice was appropriate in an only way for the Italian-Brazilian, that inserted it inside of the context of the recreationalmember clubs. The practice of the soccer, was certainly a thread very much used by the descendants of Italians for the demarcation of their habits and moral and cultural values. Due to the great inclusion and popularity of this practice, the possibility to surpass the geographical and cultural barriers for the exaltation of the Italian- Brazilian, was a reality. At Grêmio Esportivo Flamengo to S.E.R. Caxias this prerogative was a constant. Such a particular appropriation, made of the soccer in Caxias do Sul, specifically of S.E.R. Caxias, an identity mark and mediator of the positive facts of this identity. A direct connection between the club and the Italian- Brazilian identity was created, which is even visible today.
