Description
This work aims the approach between Francis Scott Fitzgerald s literary work, called The Great Gatsby (1925), and Francis Ford Coppola s homonymous filmic version, which was launched in 1974. The research proposed by this work is based on the study of adaptation, by observing the similarities, the differences, and Coppola s reading on Fitzgerald s literary work, and considering the particularities of both texts. The general objective is to explore the aspects of environment, such as, the decadence of the American society in the twenties, and the Jazz Age, starting from the book. Yet, the specific object is to describe the way Fitzgerald and Coppola designed one of the central characters, Jay Gatsby. The Interart Studies, that is, literature and cinema will be the basis for the theory support, as this work specifically comprehends a study of literature and other arts.
Este trabalho objetiva a aproximação entre o texto literário de Francis Scott Fitzgerald, intitulado The Great Gatsby (1925), e a versão fílmica homônima de Francis Ford Coppola, lançada em 1974. A pesquisa proposta por este trabalho está pautada no estudo da adaptação, observando-se as semelhanças, as diferenças, e a releitura feita por Coppola a partir da obra literária de Fitzgerald, e levando-se em consideração as particularidades dos dois tipos de texto. O objetivo geral é explorar os aspectos da ambientação, tais como, a decadência da sociedade americana na década de vinte, e a Era do Jazz, partindo-se da obra. Já o objetivo específico é descrever a maneira como Fitzgerald e Coppola esquematizaram uma das personagens centrais, Jay Gatsby. Os estudos interartes, isto é, literatura e cinema, serão a base de sustentação teórica, já que este trabalho se refere especificamente ao estudo da literatura e das outras artes.
