This dissertation focuses on the intimate discourse of a female character, whose name appears in the title: From Silvia s diary [2005] (Do diário de Sílvia). It is about the penultimate part of the third volume of the trilogy Time and the Wind, by Erico Verissimo. The research aims to make a critical study on the presence of confession in the speech reported by the author of Rio Grande do Sul in his classic narrative, From Silvia s diary. By reporting inner conflicts, such as the loving feeling in relation to her husband\'s brother, the affection for Rodrigo, the godfather, the skepticism towards faith in God, the conflicts of the New State dictatorship, the Spanish Civil War and World War II, the work builds a reflective view of human beings and their questions about the society in which they live, and how this afflicts it. Another unique factor of this diary is that the narrative is made by a woman, something unusual in the trilogy, since they have no leading voice in the novel. For a better explanation of my analysis of the character Sylvia, I propose a comparison with the character Ana Terra, the main female protagonist of the trilogy, and how the two faced the conflicts of life, to gain a say in the male world.

A presente dissertação foca o discurso intimista de uma personagem feminina, cujo nome figura no título: Do diário de Sílvia [2005]; trata-se da penúltima parte do terceiro tomo da trilogia O Tempo e o Vento, do escritor Erico Verissimo. A pesquisa busca realizar um estudo crítico sobre a presença da confissão, no discurso relatado pelo autor gaúcho, em sua clássica narrativa, Do diário de Sílvia. A obra, ao relatar conflitos íntimos, dentre eles, o sentimento amoroso em relação ao irmão de seu marido, a afeição pelo padrinho Rodrigo, a desconfiança em relação à fé em Deus, os conflitos da ditadura do Estado Novo, a Guerra Civil Espanhola e a Segunda Guerra Mundial, constrói uma visão reflexiva do ser humano e seus questionamentos sobre a sociedade em que vive, e como esta a aflige. Outro fator singular, desse diário, é que a narrativa é feita por uma mulher, algo inusitado na trilogia, uma vez que elas não têm voz dominante no romance. Para melhor explanação de minha análise sobre a personagem Sílvia, proponho uma comparação com a personagem Ana Terra, principal protagonista feminina da trilogia, e como as duas enfrentaram os conflitos da vida, para ganhar voz no mundo masculino.
