The present work deals with, initially, the fictional character of the disease, its origin and related to the perception of time, constituting a form of narration that blends history and literature as a genre border, with social and political characteristics. Guided by some theoretical discourse about the irony, structural feature of the work of Mário Prata, as well as the comic element. We will also, theoretically, on the formation of national identity, the figure of the Indian and his literary representation, like the modernists, influencers Mario Prata.Since then, our work back to the analysis of some chronicles the author\'s work retained the hundred best chronicles (which are actually 129), in order to understand the texts as narratives of many meanings. We showed traces of irony in the book, exploring the search for the construction of Brazilian identity.
O presente trabalho trata-se de uma reflexão sobre as crônicas de Mario Alberto Campos de Morais Prata, vulgo Mario Prata, importante autor da literatura brasileira. Para tanto selecionamos crônicas escritas ao longo de sua carreira que compõem seu livro Cem Melhores Crônicas (que na verdade são 129). No intuito de realizar uma análise das crônicas citadas, levar-se-á em conta o caráter polêmico da crônica como gênero literário que tem em sua gênese o caráter de texto jornalístico, situando-se entre a literatura e o jornalismo. Inicialmente abordaremos o caráter ficcional da crônica, relacionando-a a sua origem e à percepção do tempo. Observamos que a crônica constitui uma forma de narrar que a mistura à história e à literatura como um gênero fronteiriço, com características sociais e políticas. Norteados por alguns teóricos discorremos sobre a ironia, traço estruturante da obra de Mario Prata, assim como o elemento cômico. Trataremos também, teoricamente, sobre a formação da identidade nacional na historiografia literária brasileira, apresentando a herança modernista de Mario Prata que se apresenta no tom coloquial de suas crônicas e nos temas que elege, como a construção de um perfil do homem brasileiro contemporâneo.
