Description
This work studies the effects of nonlinearities in the dynamical formulation of highly flexible structures. A summary of the mathematical formulation is presented for context and a better understanding of the computational tool used. The work is done by simplifying the aircraft into a semi-fixed wing and defined as a beam. Two models are considered for both structure and associated aerodynamic. One of the models is linear and presents the DLM aerodynamic model, the other has a nonlinear structure and an aerodynamic model based on Peters theory. To better understand the effects of large displacements, the aeroelastic model was made with large aspect ratio and analyzed on its natural frequencies, vibration modes, and deformations. Also, to complement the study, a control reversal analysis was performed to visualize how this phenomenon occurs with the considerations of the nonlinear model.
