Descrição

The reorganisation of the territory of Castile, Kingdom of León, in the tenth century, after the recovery of the region from the Islamic occupation, meant the establishment of a network of monasteries: a number of new ones were founded, and pre-existent communities were restored. In the eleventh century, after the devastation of al-Manṣūr, the reconstruction of the monastic life in the monasteries that had been damaged raises many interesting issues about continuity and innovation in this area, namely in the production of passionaries. This study explores some of these issues. In most cases, the innovation is connected to the arrival of new devotions and their incorporation into updated passionaries. But it also happens to be related to the arrival of new models of passiones and vitae already known in the area. One of these cases, the «Passio» of Christina of Tyre (BHL 1748-1757h), will be examined.
