O crescimento progressivo da população e, consequentemente, o aumento dos esgotos gerados, tem exigido da sociedade e das políticas públicas que, além da implantação de rede coletora seja realizado o tratamento e a disposição adequada dos esgotos tratados em todos os municípios brasileiros. Neste contexto, o objetivo deste estudo foi acompanhar e avaliar a obra de implantação de uma Estação de Tratamento de Esgotos (ETE), no município de Guaratinguetá, no Estado de São Paulo, para identificar o atendimento às exigências legais e à NBR 12.209/2011. Verificou-se que a construção desta ETE atendeu a todos os requisitos da NBR 12.209/2011e beneficiou uma grande parcela da população do município de Guaratinguetá, que não possuía tratamento de esgoto. Com base nos resultados desta avaliação concluiu-se que a construção de uma ETE é, relativamente, simples, diferindo somente quanto às exigências legais relacionadas à localização, área destinada à construção e materiais utilizados na obra. Os conhecimentos gerados neste estudo poderão auxiliar as políticas públicas na implantação de ETEs em municípios que ainda não contam com esse serviço de saneamento básico
The progressive growth of the population and the increase of sewage generated has demanded of society and public policies that, besides the collection network deployment is carried out the treatment and proper disposal of treated sewage in all brazilian municipalities. The aim of this study was to monitor and evaluate the work of implementation of a Sewage Treatment Plant (STP) in Guaratinguetá city of São Paulo state, to identify the compliance with legal requirements and the NBR 12,209/2011. The construction of this ETE met all the requirements of NBR 12209/2011 and benefited a large portion of population with the sewage treatment. Based on the results of this assessment it was concluded that the construction of a STP is relatively simple, differing only on the legal requirements related to the location, area for the construction and materials used in the work. The knowledge generated in this study will assist the public policies in the implementation of STPs in municipalities that do not yet have this basic sanitation
