Description

The high incidence of bullying in primary and secondary education, widely documented in the specialized literature, reinforces the need to implement strategies to prevent bullying from preschool onwards, with special attention to the pedagogical practice of the first levels of formal education. This research, developed within the scope of the Master's degree in Child Studies, focuses on the analysis of children's literature as a means for preventing bullying and promoting a culture of citizenship in preschool and the first cycle of basic education. The rationale for this study is the high incidence of bullying in primary and secondary education, widely documented in the specialized literature, which reinforces the need to implement strategies to prevent bullying from preschool onwards, with special attention to the pedagogical practice of the first levels of formal education. It aims, therefore, to contribute to the development of a set of socio-emotional skills essential for personal and social development that aims at the integral development of the individual, especially favoring the construction of identity, autonomy, self-esteem, and social responsibility. Based on a qualitative, documentary, and interpretative approach, this study analyzes 12 works of children's literature published between 2020 and 2024, selected based on their thematic and aesthetic relevance and in accordance with the National Reading Plan (PNL – 2027). Taking into account, especially, the contributions of Urie Bronfenbrenner and CASEL (Collaborative for Academic, Social and Emotional Learning), and the symbolic and aesthetic analysis of the stories, recurring themes such as empathy, diversity, exclusion, friendship, and justice were identified at the heart of the literary reading. The results highlight the potential of mediated reading to promote children's socio-emotional learning and foster more inclusive school practices. The work culminates in the inference of a set of pedagogical practices, articulating knowledge about school bullying, socio-emotional learning, children's literature, and citizenship education, which is inseparable from a humanist ethic. The research reinforces the role of children's literature as a means of listening, transforming, and preventing bullying behaviors in the school context.
