Description
This study aims to investigate how rural populations, tourism as a system and its trends in the social, accessible and senior niche can contribute to the improvement of the quality of life of this population in achieving equal opportunities and democratization of tourism. Through the identification of stereotypes and problems, understanding what already exists in terms of tourist supply and the reality of the actors of this type of tourism, drawing conclusions about the motivations, activities and difficulties experienced in the trips that the rural population makes, suggesting solutions and strategies to facilitate membership and access to the products of the tourism system. The primary data collection was done through the technique of interview for the depth and scope of information that this enables, the secondary data collected from the literature on this subject, through a benchmarking analysis on the various topics addressed as well as examples and case studies in Portugal. With this research, we can conclude some measures and guidelines that need to be implemented and followed in order to improve the suitability of destinations and tourism supply to the needs and expectations of the current rural population with senior, accessible and social tourism. These measures derive from the preferences, choices, motivations, and concerns of the target audience.
