Description

Taxes are a heavy burden for companies, resulting in a decrease in their available net cash flows. In this sense, companies have increasingly adopted tax planning practices, and the use of tax benefits—options established by the legislator in the tax system to help reduce the tax burden on companies—is one of the planning strategies used. While this is a benefit for companies, it is a tax expense for the State, since the main objective of taxes is to collect revenue to meet the collective needs of the State. The aim of this study was to analyze some of the tax benefits that represent an expense for the State and to quantify the effects they have on companies. To this end, we conducted three case studies for the periods between 2022 and 2024. Three companies of different sizes were selected from the universe of those assigned to the work team that the intern joined during her curricular internship. In general, the results indicate that the larger the size and turnover of the company, the greater the likelihood of obtaining greater tax savings. Additionally, we concluded that it is the tax benefits that operate by deduction from the tax base that allow for a greater reduction in the entity's tax burden.
