This research aims to analyze the work of the social worker in student assistance at public universities, with the search field to the Superintendência Geral de Políticas Estudantis da Universidade Federal do Rio de Janeiro (SuperEst/UFRJ). Therefore, this research analyzes the work process in which are inscribed the social workers of student assistance, with emphasis on the debate on the increasing rationalization of professional work that has been submitted in the context of counterreform of Higher Education. In terms of methodology is an exploratory study, based on a review of the theoretical production on the investigated phenomenon, in documentary research to official data, institutional documents that regulate the student assistance and instruments and systematization produced by the multidisciplinary team, as well as carrying out semi-structured interviews with the team of social workers of student assistance, in order to identify the contradictions that run through the student assistance actions, the seizure of cases of the demands presented by the students, the way professionals delimit their object of work and systematization of processes and evaluation of the work. The main results include the break with the historical trajectory of the professional to the social worker, marked today by the primacy of socio-economic analysis at the expense of the student tracking, and the gap between the axes in the program and implementation of student assistance actions at the university.

O presente estudo tem como principal objetivo analisar o trabalho do assistente social na assistência estudantil em universidades públicas, tendo como campo de pesquisa a Superintendência Geral de Políticas Estudantis da Universidade Federal do Rio de Janeiro (SuperEst/UFRJ). Para tanto, essa investigação analisa o processo de trabalho no qual se inscrevem os assistentes sociais da assistência estudantil, com ênfase no debate sobre a crescente racionalização do trabalho profissional a que vem sendo submetidos, num contexto de contrarreforma da Educação Superior. Em termos metodológicos constitui um estudo de caráter exploratório, com base na revisão das produções teóricas sobre o fenômeno investigado, na pesquisa documental a dados oficiais, documentos institucionais que normatizam a assistência estudantil e instrumentos de trabalho e sistematizações produzidas pela equipe multiprofissional, bem como na realização de entrevistas semiestruturadas com a equipe de assistentes sociais da assistência estudantil, com vistas a identificar as contradições que atravessam as ações de assistência estudantil, os processos de apreensão das demandas apresentadas pelos estudantes, a forma como os profissionais delimitam seu objeto de trabalho e os processos de sistematização e avaliação do trabalho. Como principais resultados destacam-se a ruptura com a trajetória histórica do fazer profissional do assistente social, marcada na atualidade pela primazia da análise socioeconômica em detrimento do acompanhamento discente, e o descompasso entre os eixos previstos no programa e a execução das ações de assistência estudantil na universidade.
