A voz do Autor na comédia greco-latina
| Resumo: | From the direct and personal attack, which characterized the powerful and didactic tone of ancient Greek comedy, an echo stands out for the one who has been, if one considers the progress of the genre throughout all Antiquity, the last great name: Terence. He was now motivated by a clear purpose: defending from the animosity of rivals and contestants and clarifying artistic criteria by which he tried to guide his production. That preoccupation wasn't overlooked by the old Athenian poets. That's why it is possible, in spite of all the differences separating two remarkable moments in the history of comedy, to join two poets - Aristophanes and Terence - through something that has interested them both passionately: the struggle for the renewal and progress of an elevated art, which they were ab]e to cultivate by means of two indispensable qualities: the spark of genius and the experience of the long joumey that, through relentless effort, leads to success. |
