Level of adoption of industry 4.0 technologies by companies in the wine sector in Portugal

Resumo:Technological advancements have triggered a significant shift from the physical to the digital realm, reshaping industries globally. Industry 4.0, a novel business approach, is a key driver of this transformation. The wine industry, like many others, faces the challenge of meeting modern consumer expectations in this new digital landscape. In Portugal's wine sector, Industry 4.0 presents both challenges and opportunities. Leveraging the sector's rich heritage and unique landscape, digital technologies can enhance competitiveness, sustainability, and innovation. This study introduces a model to evaluate Industry 4.0 adoption in the Portuguese wine sector, consisting of five distinct levels, each representing a stage of progress towards ideal technology adoption. The model is based on three essential dimensions: organizational characteristics, environmental factors, and technological attributes. By assessing adoption across these dimensions, Portuguese wine companies can identify areas for improvement and expedite their digital transformation. This research will provide valuable insights for the Portuguese wine sector and other industries navigating the transition to Industry 4.0, contributing to the understanding of this adoption process.
