Detalhes bibliográficos
Resumo:The present dissertation aims to better understand the differences between the French and the Portuguese organizational cultures by comparing them and identifying the French organizational cultural standards from the Portuguese perspective. In order to achieve that objective, the cultural standards method and research methodology was used, as this is a method specific for the comparison of only two cultures, and its three main steps were carried out. Firstly, narrative interviews were conducted with 9 Portuguese individuals who had worked in France for over 5 months. These interviews were performed to gain more insight on the interviewees’ experiences while working in the country. Secondly, the transcripts generated from those interviews were analyzed to identify the critical incidents in the cross-cultural encounters that would make up the preliminary version of the organizational cultural standards in question. Lastly, these results were shared with the interviewees to obtain feedback and confirm the conclusions reached. Taking this into consideration, the final version of the cultural standards was obtained. All in all, the French organizational cultural standards from the Portuguese perspective identified in this research are Flexible Schedule and Work Model, Good Interpersonal Relationships, Importance of Work-life Balance, and High Level of Bureaucracy.
