Detalhes bibliográficos
Resumo:Higher education transition is related to personal and academic requirements, demanding from the students an effort to adapt to these requirements. The present study analyses the number of academic drop-out and the achievement of engineering students at the University of Minho. Textile Engineering, Apparel Engineering, Polymer Engineering and Materials Engineering represent the courses with higher drop-out rates, while Biomedical Engineering, Civil Engineering and Computer Science and System Engineering present the lowest scores on these variables. We have also found that the highest drop-out rates are in the first, second and fifth year. The courses with highest mean grades and success rates are Biological Engineering, Biomedical Engineering and Civil Engineering. The lowest results are to be found at Mechanical Engineering and Computer Science and System Engineering.
