The early nineteenth-century English popular radical press and today’s anti-capitalist protest movement
| Resumo: | The early nineteenth-century English popular radical press and today’s anticapitalist protest movement have conflict and trauma in common, and both involve change. Cultural and social change is an intrinsically dynamic process which builds upon pre-existing foundations. It is, therefore, crucial to explore the connections between present-day protest movements and past political and cultural traditions in order to understand the present through the past. This chapter stresses the role played by marginal voices in the process of social and cultural change. |
