Preface [18th International Conference on Research Challenges in Information Science, RCIS 2024. Proceedings, Part II]

Resumo:[Excerpt] This volume of the Lecture Notes in Business Information Processing series contains the proceedings of the 18th International Conference on Research Challenges in Information Science, RCIS 2024, held in Guimarães, Portugal, during May 14–17, 2024. Guimarães is a scenic historical city located in the north of the country and considered the cradle of the Portuguese nation. The scope of RCIS covers the thematic areas of information systems and their engineering, user-oriented approaches, data and information management, enterprise management and engineering, domain-specific information systems engineering, data science, information infrastructures, and reflective research and practice. RCIS 2024 focused on the special theme “Information Science: Evolution or Revolution?”. The 25 full papers presented in the first volume were carefully reviewed and selected from a total of 79 submissions to the main conference. Out of all the submissions, three were desk rejected because the Program Co-chairs found them to be outside the scope of the conference. All the remaining submissions were single-blind reviewed by at least three Program Committee (PC) members. That was followed by a discussion period moderated by Program Board (PB) members. A PB meeting was also held in Lisbon to discuss the final selection of papers for the conference program. The acceptance rate was 32%. The authors received recommendations and meta-reviews to be contemplated in the camera-ready versions. The second volume includes 12 Forum papers and five Doctoral Consortium papers. The Forum track received 14 dedicated submissions, out of which seven were accepted. Six submissions to the main conference were recommended for presentation at the Forum.
