Representing the villain and the hero in film adaptations of Oliver Twist
| Resumo: | The aim of essay is to analyse the different representations of both Oliver (hero) and Fagin (villain), starting with the novel (together with George Cruishank’s illustrations for the first editions) and departing from these to analyse different film adaptations of the novel. The essay will particularly focus on the ideological constraints that may lie behind the different emphases given to the film adaptations and, particularly, the character functions in different adaptations of the novel. |
